Na katedře informatiky a počítačů Ostravské univerzity je možno od roku 1998 studovat obor Aplikovaná informatika v kombinované formě s výraznými distančními prvky. Počet zájemců se každoročně o tuto formu studia stále zvyšuje. Tento příspěvek se zabývá důvody, které vedou studenty k náročné distanční formě.

The article describes the history and current state of computer science education in distance and e-learning forms on University of Ostrava. It presents the methods, forms and also content of these study programs. It shows different types of subjects taught from theoretical computer science to applied branches like programming or computer architecture. The most important issues of such kind of education are discussed and systemized.
