Beide Städte stellten am Ende der Habsburgermonarchie den Prototyp traditioneller Landesverwaltungszentren dar, welche gleichzeitig auch Zentren von Ausbildung, Handel, Handwerk und Dienstleistungen waren. Das Kapitel widmet sich neben der Wahrnehmung von Ethnizität/Identität der Auflösung der Gemeindevertretungen in den beiden Städten sowie der deutsch-tschechischen Beziehungen im Bereich des Stadtraums und machte dies am Beispiel von Denkmälern, nationalen Festen, Kommunalwahlen, Straßennamen, Kultur sowie öffentlicher Meinung fest.

At the end of the Habsburg monarchy, both cities represented the prototype of traditional state administrative centers, which were also centers of education, trade, handicrafts and services. In addition to the perception of ethnicity / identity, the chapter is devoted to the dissolution of municipal councils in the two cities as well as to German-Czech relations in the area of urban space and established this using the example of monuments, national festivals, local elections, street names, culture and public opinion.
