Výstava nazvaná Pojmenovat se to musí… v Galerii Emila Filly představuje dvě klíčové osobnosti současné ostravské umělecké scény a zároveň kolegy z Katedry malby Fakulty umění Ostravské univerzity Daniela Balabána (narozen 1957) a Františka Kowolowského (narozen 1967). Daniel Balabán - bytostný malíř - je názorově hluboce propojen s generací umělců, která v českém prostředí na sklonku osmdesátých let minulého století prosadila postmoderní směřování a postupně ho rozvíjela směrem k individualizaci uměleckého výrazu, přičemž zůstala věrná tradičním vyjadřovacím prostředkům, především výraznému malířskému rukopisu. O deset let mladší František Kowolowski je potom reprezentantem silné vlny autorů, která v průběhu devadesátých let dvacátého století s využitím multimediálních a nezřídka alternativních komunikačních strategií formulovala nová obsahová témata i širokou společenskou zodpovědnost v souvislosti s transformačními procesy navazujícími na rozpad totalitního systému.

The Exhibition entitled It must be named ... Emil Filla Gallery presents two key personalities of the contemporary Ostrava art scene as well as colleagues from the Painting Department of the Faculty of Arts of the University of Ostrava, Daniel Balaban (born 1957) and Frantisek Kowolowski (born 1967). Daniel Balabán - an essential painter - is deeply connected with the generation of artists who, in the late 1980s, enforced the postmodern direction and gradually developed it towards the individualization of the artistic expression, while remaining faithful to the traditional expressive means, especially the distinctive painting manuscript. About ten years younger Frantisek Kowolowski is then a representative of a strong wave of authors who formulated new content themes and broad social responsibility in the course of the transformation processes following the decay of the totalitarian system in the 1990s through the use of multimedia and often alternative communication strategies.
