cult fiction, British and North American understanding of cult fiction, cult fiction in Central Europe

In English speaking countries, several literary monographs and dictionaries about cult fiction were published in the last decades. In continental Europe, this topic is paid much lower attention. In the first part of the essay, main ways of defining of this special phenomenon are discussed according to British and American sources, and in the following part, they are compared with cult fiction as it is less exactly understood in Central European literatures, especially in Czech literature.
