Text se zaměřuje na reflexi problému původu morálky v koncepci jednoho z čelních představitelů soudobé etologie a primatologie Franse de Waala. Své názory formuluje de Waal v polemice s náboženskou (především křesťanskou) koncepcí morálky. Nizozemský myslitel uznává kulturní a duchovní význam náboženství, ale zpochybňuje jeho odpověď na otázky původu dobra, zla a mravních regulativů. Argumenty k odůvodnění jejich přirozeného (natural) původu nachází v empirických výzkumech šimpanzů.

The article focuses on the reflection of the problem of origin ofmorality in the concept of one of the leading representatives of contemporary ethology and primatology Frans de Waal. De Waal formulates his viewsin a controversy with the religious (especially Christian) concept of morality.The Dutch thinker accepts cultural and spiritual significance of religion, butquestions its answer to problems of origin of good, evil and moral regulations. Arguments to justify their natural origin are found in empirical researchof chimpanzees.
