Key words in English:
Dostoyevsky on Christianity; Tolstoy on Christianity; moral law; human perfection; perfection of society
Annotation in original language:
The paper aims to analyse Leo Tolstoy's and Fyodor Dostoyevsky's versions of Christian worldview and their impact on both the main streams of Russian religious philosophy and the Western philosophy. Both writers denied two essential ideas of orthodox Christianity: the idea of the radical sinfulness of man and the opposition of the earthly world and the transcendental, divine world (Paradise). In the opinion of Dostoyevsky, Jesus expresses the ideal of the individual human perfection, performed in earthly life; everyone should be like Christ. If each of us performs the same, the society becomes perfect and reaches heavenly state on the earth. Tolstoy points out that life principles and law offered by Christ do not correspond to Moses's law, to the Jewish religion as aligned to the imperfect human life. Christ never claimed immortality of the human soul.
