Kapitola se věnuje vývoji pražského souměstí ve 14. století, zaměřuje se na jeho stavební vývoj, ekonomické postaven a společenský vývoj se speciálním zřetelem na různé skupiny městského obyvatelstva.

The chapter deals with the Prague towns of the 14th century, their buildings and economic growth, while the life of their citizens is documented through a range of valuable monuments and artefacts from diverse social strata of the society of that time. The text is divided from a standpoint that focuses on the differentiation in the environment of the townsfolk, the urban-patrician and noble classes and the municipal ? secular and monastic ? clergy. Other than this, it is dedicated to the development of the crafts and trade, which in the time of Charles IV?s reign provided the basis for the prosperity of the Prague towns.
