Studie zkoumá jazykové vědomosti a dovednosti, které odlišují angličtinu nerodilých uživatelů angličtiny od angličtiny rodilých mluvčích; soustředí se přitom na texty odborných článků připravovaných k publikaci v databázových časopisech. Výsledky kontrastivní analýzy textů nerodilých uživatelů před korekturou a po korektuře rodilými mluvčími jsou porovnány s výsledky analýz korpusu akademické angličtiny jako lingua franca (ELFA, 2012).

The study strives to reveal the competences and knowledge advanced users of English still lack to achieve the native-speaker level in scientific writing. The paper presents findings reviewed journals published in English and their final submitted versions proofread by native speakers/professional proof-readers. The research is a case study grounded in a qualitative analysis investigating corrections of issues seen as inappropriate on a variety of levels (on the lexico-grammatical level, the textual level and the degree of formality as well as on the generic level related to the genre of abstract and research article). The results are compared with findings brought by the ELFA project at the University of Helsinki (Anna Mauranen 2012) and are viewed as inspirational for advanced training of ELF users, future EFL teachers and professional translators.
