Autorka příspěvku interpretuje obraz Roy Nachuma Vlastní portrét v souřadnicích úvah o identitě Já, zobrazené prostřednictvím autoportrétu, který nepracuje s obrazem tváře, ale Já zde zastupují ruce. Tato podoba portrétu a skutečnost, že obraz vyžaduje hmatový kontakt (na obrazu je Braillovým písmem napsaná báseň) vede autorku k úvahám o povaze a významu hmatu, symbolických významech ruky a vztahu mezi zrakem a hmatem v oblasti výtvarného umění. Obraz Roye Nachuma je vybudován na kontrastu světla a temnoty; součástí jeho interpretace jsou úvahy o světlu jako podmínce vnímání a poznání, a symbolické významy světla a temnoty.

The author interprets the painting Self Portrait created by Roy Nachum in the conceptual framework of identity of the Self, represented by means of self-portrait which does not concentrate on the face but on the hands. This special way of portraying oneself and the fact that the painting needs tactile contact from the side of audience (on the surface of the painting, there is a poem written in Braille letters) directs the author of the paper to think about the significance of the touch, symbolic meanings of the hands and the relation between sight and touch in the area of visual arts. Roy Nachum?s painting is based on the contrast of lightness and darkness; that is the reason that the problem of light as a condition of perception and knowledge, and symbolic meanings of lightness and darkness are also taken into account in the course of interpretation.
