Distance learning uses computer resources at present. E-learning is a popular way of dealing with distance learning. This brings new opportunities, methods and forms. Computer equipment and appropriate educational software allow you to improve the quality of distance learning. Information and communication technology brings not only new possibilities in human life, but also a new approach to education. Nowadays, it is important for us to make management of information and communication technologies to a higher level in comparison with the past. Recent results indicate that distance teaching is less successful than the full-time teaching. The paper shows the practical experiences of distance learning at the Department of Informatics and Computers at the University of Ostrava. The paper compares the results and success of distance students and full-time students in various semesters of Bachelor's degree program Applied Informatics.
