The paper deals with some of the possibilities of the use of social media in education. Various sources state the following examples of communication: teacher-student, student-student, teacher-teacher, teacher-parent, or the sharing of the multimedia content between schools. We researched the way the Czech elementary schools use social media and what is their opinion of them. The paper contains the results of the research. Both teachers and parents are worried as the uncontrolled use of social media by children can be dangerous. We are presenting the most frequent risks that the users of social media and networks might encounter such as cyberbullying or cyber grooming. Choosing a safe social medium, such as eTwinning, is one of the possibilities to avoid these risks when working with social media at school.
