Wiesław Adam Berger; semantic structure of the literary text; symbolism of the river; Polish literature in Silesia

Tekst poświęcony jest jednemu aspektowi w twórczości ostrawskiego pisarza Wiesława Adama Bergera żyjącego w latach 1926 - 1998. Autorka poddała analizie zbiór jego nowel pt. Most nad Łucyną, by odkryć wszystkie kpnotacje wiążące się autorowi z leksemem "rzeka". Dochodzi do wniosku, że oprócz tradycyjnych znaczeń pojawia się w nowelach powiązanie z marzeniami młodości, z tęskonotą za upływającym życiem i smutkiem z ubytku sił witalnych. Rzeka bywa też wykorzystywana jako pierwiastek kompozycyjny opowiadań.

The article deals with Adam Berger's work. This Polish writer lived between years 1926 - 1998 in Ostrava. The author analyses the texts from the novel compilation Most nad Łucyną and reflects the symbolic meaning of the lexeme river in Berger´s literary image. The author of the paper reaches the conclusion that besides traditional and culturally set meanings we can find in the symbol of river the desire for a more beautiful life, return of youth and vital powers. Flowing of the river is used as composition element of his novels.
