Key words in English:
vitality; rot; Orava region; Aesculus hippocastanum; Betula pendula
Annotation in original language:
This article discusses vitality of 258 urban trees with regard to their rot damages from the Orava region towns (Dolný Kubín, Námestovo, Trstená, Tvrdošín). In total, 174 trees were birches (Betula pendula Roth.) and 84 were horse-chestnut trees (Aesculus hippocastanum L.). Research included trees in four different categories of public greenery (public square and street, park, block of flats, cemetery). The smallest number of the damaged birch trees came from parks. The smallest number of the damaged horse-chestnut trees came from blocks of flats. Rot most often occurs on mature horse-chestnut trees in the under half of the trunk.
