Key words in English:
Prosocial personality, belief in a just world, personal competence, values, empathy, volunteerism.
Annotation in original language:
The goal of the study consists in statistical comparison of the level of four independent psychological constructs, i.e. the level of prosocial personality, belief in a just world, personal competence and value preferences between a set of female service volunteers and current and future set of female helping professionals. Research results suggest that female volunteers have, as compared to female professionals, higher level of social responsibility, perspective taking, subject-reported altruism and other-oriented empathy. They also show higher level of general and personal belief in a just world and higher level of personal competence. Their level of personal distress is, on the contrary, statistically significantly lower. Research results also show that female volunteers have statistically higher score in the level of value type of self-direction, stimulation and benevolence and higher level of value orientation of openness to change and self-transcendence than helping female professionals.
