Text se zabývá urbanonymií města Ostravy a jejími vrstvami, zejména nestandardizovanými podobami toponym užívaných v komunikaci, včetně problému jejich oficiálnosti. Ukazuje, že názvotvorné modely těchto toponym jsou strukturně podobné pomístním jménům.

The present paper deals with contemporary Czech urbanonymy, namely street names, as illustrated in the urbanonymy of the downtown and suburbs of the city of Ostrava (the Czech Republic). The first aim of the paper is to provide fundamental characteristics of modern Czech urbanonymy and to point out why this is possible, or rather impossible, to use the street names for orientation in urban areas. The prevalence of commemorative street names is regarded as the main obstacle to an effective orientation according to the street names in the Czech cities. Another aim of the paper is the description of the unofficial toponymy used in order to complement or rather to substitute the official form of street names. The structure of such names is identical with the models used in the minor place name system, e.g. the names of fields, meadows and woods.
