Příspěvek je zaměřen na nežádoucí terminologickou synonymii v případech, jako jsou jazykový projev vs. promluva vs. text vs. komunikát, styl prostě sdělovací vs. běžně dorozumívací vs. hovorový, styl publicistický vs. žurnalistický. Zamýšlí se také nad výstižnější náhradou za dnes plně nevyhovující termín styl umělecký, jenž dnes obsahuje komunikáty, o jejichž uměleckých kvalitách lze úspěšně pochybovat, a přesto je nelze ignorovat. Zohledněn je rovněž aspekt diachronní.

The article deals with several terminological problems. The author points at synonymy that can be seen in many Czech linguistic works, i.e. ?jazykový projev, promluva, text, komunikát?. They are used either for the same language unit or they are considered to have (slightly) different subject matter. The author offers the term ?komunikát? for the finished unit and ?text? for its structure. Then there are discussed terms ?styl prostě sdělovací? vs. ?běžně dorozumívací? vs. ?hovorový?, ?styl publicistický? vs. ?žurnalistický?, and finally the term ?styl umělecký? (artistic style) because now it covers numerous works that are not artistic in the strict sense of the word. Regardless of their quality, they cannot be ignored because quantity of their recipients exceeds all others. The author offers the term ?styl beletristický? or ?vyprávěcí, narativní?.
