W niniejszym artykule autor zwraca uwagę na narodowościowo i językowo mieszane środowisko czeskiej części Śląska Cieszyńskiego, czyli Zaolzie. Na czesko-polskim pograniczu ma miejsce kontakt i mieszanie dwóch narodów, kultur oraz języków, a co za tym idzie, także kwestia dwujęzyczności oraz dyglosji. Autor skupia się przede wszystkim na zjawisku dyglosji - prezentuje genezę, rozwój i różne podejścia do tego pojęcia w ujęciu badaczy kontaktów językowych oraz własnym w kontekście sytuacji językowej w omawianym regionie. W socjolingwistycznym ujęciu dotyka także niektórych teoretycznych pytań i zagadnień związanych z dyglosją.

The author of the article focuses on the nationally and linguistically mixed area of the Czech part of the Těšín region, so called Zaolzie. In the Czech-Polish borderland there is a contact and blending of two nations, cultures and languages, which is connected with the issues of bilingualism and diglossia. First of all the author concentrates on phenomenon of diglossia - he presents its origin, progress and different meanings of this term in conception of language contacts specialists in context of language situation in the region. From the sociolinguistic point of view the author concerns also some of theoretical questions and problems connected with diglossia.
