Autor článku se zabývá problémy, se kterými se setkávají překladatele, hledajíc ekvivalenty v druhém jazyce, jako např. to již dělal André Lafevere. Ty záleží nejenom na tým kterým jazyku, ale i na kulturní tradici (výchozího a cílového jazyka). Výchozím bodem pro autora je teorie Johanna Gottfrieda a Wilhelma von Humbolda a modifikována její forma Edwardem Sapirem a Benjaminem Lee Whorfem, a Annou Wierzbickou, která pracovala s jazyky národů Severní Amerika a Austrálie. Autor odkazují také na kognitivní schopnosti překonávání jazykových překážek při překládání textů (např. jazyková teorie obrazu světa Ronalda Langackera, Georga Lakoffa a Marka Johnsona) a popisuje pět hlavních překážek (prahy) v překladu, který každý překladatel musí překonat a které jsou spojeny s ekologií, hmotnou kulturou, duchovní kulturou a náboženstvím. Jiný postup překladatele způsobuje vznik paralelních překladů téhož díla literatury (např. překlady Pan Tadeusz Adama Mickiewicze Elišky Krásnohorské a Erika Sojky).

This essay discusses the problems of the translator looking for equivalents in direct language, depending of the cultural tradition of a source language and a target language, as A. Lafevere has already pointed out. The author starting point is the theory of J. Gottfried and W. von Humbold, as it has been modified by E. Sapir and B. Lee Whorf, and then passes is a somewhat modified form used by A. Wierzbicka, which refers to the languages of the peoples of North America and Australia. He also point out the cognitive capacity to overcome language barriers when translating texts (or language theory picture of the world, R. Langacker, G. Lakoff and M. Johnson). Five key barriers in translation, which each translator must overcome, and which are, due to differences in the wider ecology, material culture, spiritual culture, religion. This leads to the formation of parallel translations of the same literature work (such as translations of A. Mickiewicz?s Pan Tadeusz by E. Krásnohorská and E.Sojka).
