The backbone regional network of integrated transport system is often formed by suburban railways. Railway network has high capacity possibilities, creates interconnection with long distance public transport as well as city light rail system. Its stations create the most important transfer nodes in the system. The aim of the paper is to make the typology of the rail systems in urban areas according to their spatial organization and technology and also evaluate spatial involvement of railway to Ostrava integrated public transport system (OITS) and identification of problems causes with this process.
