The aim of the present paper is to shed some light on ?avtorskaya pesnya?, a specific synthetic genre, its origin, development and, of course, the poets-songwriters who wrote in this tradition, e.g. Bulat Okudzhava, Aleksandr Galich and, especially, Vladimir Vysotsky. The goal of this work is to determine the place of this genre in the context of Russian culture of the 2nd half of 20th century. Finally yet importantly, an attention has been devoted to Vladimir Vysotsky´s works, which consist of approximately 600 songs. A chosen pattern of his works has been analysed from the point of view of literary criticism. The Vysotsky´s song is a kind of seismogram, as it perfectly reflects all the impacts and events of his time. One can also perceive this "songlike novel" as a certain encyclopaedia of life in 1970s Russia.
