Tradiční šlechtické pivovarnictví sahající v českých zemích až do 40. let 16. století a provázané s ekonomikou režijního velkostatku prošlo v 19. století rozsáhlou proměnou. Vlivem ekonomické liberalizace a na ní navazující industrializace pivovarnictví došlo ve druhé polovině 19. století k výraznému úbytku šlechticů mezi vlastníky pivovarů. Značná část šlechtických pivovarů zanikla v důsledku odstranění propinačního monopolu a neschopnosti či neochoty svých vlastníků k investicím do modernizace výroby a zajištění její konkurenceschopnosti. Na druhou stranu se však v řadách šlechty, a to jak nové, tak staré rodové, našly výrazné podnikatelské osobnosti přesahující svým významem hranice regionu.

Traditional nobiliary brew industry - in Czech countries dating back to the 40´s of the 16th century and linked with the economy of the large landed estate - went through a great transformation in the 19th century. There happened an outstanding decrease of the number of nobility amongst the brew-house owners as a result of the economic liberalization and industrialization of the brewing industry. A great deal of nobiliary brew-houses abolished in consequence of elimination of the propination monopoly and inability or reluctancy of its owners to invest into modernization of the production and providing its competitive strength. On the other hand, amongst the nobles - both the new and the old descent ones - there were outstanding entrepreneurial individualities to be found who overlapped with their importance the borders of the region.
