The research aims to find out the barriers and benefits in teaching Czech as a second language for foreigners - participants of the Czech language course using the communicative approach at the Faculty of Education of the University of Ostrava in the Czech Republic (2022). The partial goal is to analyse specific aspects of teaching Czech as a foreign language in the particular community of respondents. The research method is a qualitative interview with graduates of the Czech language teaching course - academics from Ukraine. The research results present the benefits and strategies of effective educational communication, the importance of preventing communication misunderstandings, factors affecting respect for the regional culture and intercultural communication, cooperation, respect, help and specific features of internal and external barriers in everyday situations. The research highlighted the importance of preventing communication problems, factors affecting respect for otherness, intercultural cooperation, effective communication, and humanity. The partial results of the study include the definition of social aspects of the behaviour of individuals in crises, e.g. characteristics of activities, reactions to unexpected everyday situations in human life, changes in the life roles of mothers and children, diversity of motivation to learn a foreign language, adaptation to changing needs, survival, importance ties to the home country, its traditions, the necessity of inner strength and determination to increase functional and professional literacy, but also the consequences of experiencing personal and social instability, uncertainty even in the context of optimistic faith, hope and strength in a better future and lifelong learning.
