Autor opisuje dyskusję polskich i czeskich językoznawców, która toczyła się pod koniec XIX i w I połowie XX wieku na temat przynależności gwar obecnych na językowym terenie pogranicznym polsko-czeskim. Zwraca uwagę na różne rozumienie przez poszczególnych badaczy określeń gwary łaskie, gwary śląskie, a także gwary mieszane i gwary przejściowe w odniesieniu do tego terenu. W większości wypadków są to terminy niedookreślone, co uniemożliwia przypisanie ich do kręgu dziedzictwa danego języka literackiego. The author describes the discussion of Polish and Czech linguists that took place at the end of the 19th and the first half of the 20th century over the belonging of the dialects present in the Polish- Czech borderland. He draws attention to individual researchers' different understandings of the terms Lachian dialects and Silesian dialects as well as mixed dialects and transitional dialects in relation to that area. In most cases, these terms are undefined, which makes it impossible to assign them to the heritage of a given literary language. Also, the linguistic features of the analysed dialects, determined at a given stage of the research, do not allow their assignment to a specific language group.
