Escape game, energy, carbon

The current energy crisis in the world necessarily leads to considerations as to whether pupils and students are sufficiently educated in the field of energy. Whether they have sufficient knowledge about energy as a physical quantity, but mainly whether they know about practical energy contexts in everyday life. We believe that it is appropriate, by analogy with financial literacy, to also talk about energy literacy. It is necessary to introduce the interdisciplinary topic of Energy into the content of school education. Together with the content of the topic, it is necessary to look for new methods and forms that will be as accessible as possible to the current generation of students. One option is computer-based educational programs, which can take different forms. We used the theme of Energy as the central idea of the virtual escape game, which in terms of content falls into the fields of natural sciences. Students try to "escape" from the rooms by solving motivational tasks. Each of the rooms has its central theme, for example: mixtures, gases, equilibrium, redox processes, macromolecules, etc. There are ten rooms in total. In addition to the educational content, students must also solve puzzles that are related to a mysterious story, the main idea of which is energy. In the conference contribution, we are devoted to the literary background of the escape game and specific motivational tasks related to the topic of energy. A certain moral message of the entire escape game is the realization that the transformation of natural resources into energy is a demanding and wasteful process and that energy needs to be saved.
