Austrian Noblewomen, Boarding School of the Bratislava Notre Dame Nunnery, Silesian-Hungarian Relations, 18th Century, 19th Century, History of education

Tato studie se zabývá rodinným pozadím šlechtičen z vybraného souboru čtyř rakouskoslezských šlechtických rodů (Sobkové z Kornic, Skrbenští z Hříště, Celestové z Celestinu a Spens-Bodenové), které nejčastěji vysílaly své dcery ke studiu do Bratislavy v období od založení internátu do poloviny 19. století. Uvedené rody k sobě navzájem vázaly hluboké příbuzenské vazby. Současně svým majetkem (s výjimkou Spens-Bodenů), společenským postavením, angažováním v zeměpanských a stavovských úřadech reprezentují společenskou i politickou elitu dobové regionální stavovské společnosti. K zajištění vzdělání dcer v poměrně vzdálené Bratislavě je vedlo několik motivů. V prvé řadě to byla geografická poloha Bratislavy, její blízkost k vídeňskému dvoru, viditelná náklonnost ze strany Marie Terezie a osobní přítomnost její dcery Marie Kristýny s manželem Albertem Kazimírem Sasko-Těšínským.

This study focuses on family background of noble girls and women from a selected set of four Austro-Silesian families (Sobek family from Kornice, Skrbensky famiily from Hřiště, Celesta family and Spens-Boden family), who sent their girls for studies to Bratislava most frequently in the period from the establishment of the boarding school until the mid-19th century. These families were mutually related by strong family ties. At the same time, their property (with the exception of Spens-Boden family), social status, involvement in land-owning and class offices represent the social and political elite of the period regional class society. Their decision to assure girls‘ education in a relatively distant Bratislava was motivated by several reasons. In the first place, it was the geographical location of Bratislava, its proximity to the Vienna court and visible affection of Maria Theresa for the city as well as the personal presence of her daughter Maria Cristina and her husband Albert Casimir of Saxony and Teschen.
