W artykule podjęto próbę spojrzenia na katastrofę elektrowni jądrowej w Czarnobylu, któremu to wydarzeniu poświęca swój utwór "Czarnobylska modlitwa. Kronika przyszłości" Swietłana Aleksijewicz. Powracając do wydarzeń sprzed i po tragicznym wybuchu, bohaterowie-rozmówcy pisarki z perspektywy czasu wydobywają z pamięci straszne wypadki wiosny 1986. Z ludzkich opowieści, jakie zebrała Aleksijewicz, wyłania się obraz katastrofy totalnej – takiej, która dotknęła podstaw bytu i ludzkiej świadomości oraz rozumienia czasu. W artykule przedstawiono trzy perspektywy pojmowania i odczuwania doświadczenia Końca, jakie dają się uchwycić w opowieściach bohaterów utworu. Pierwsza z nich dotyka schyłku życia w jego biologicznym rozumieniu; druga traktuje o upadku wielkiego mocarstwa, które rościło sobie prawo do odpowiedzi na wszystkie ludzkie pytania i decydowania o wszystkich płaszczyznach życia homo sovieticusa. Trzecia z przedstawionych w artykule perspektyw wiąże się z kresem umiejętności pojmowania czasu, który to okazał się nie być – jak chcieli tego radzieccy ideolodzy – tym "ostatecznym”.

The article attempts to look at the catastrophe of the nuclear power plant in Chernobyl, the event Svetlana Alexievich dedicates her book entitled "The Chernobyl Prayer: The Chronicle of the Future" to. Reminiscing the events that happened before and after the tragic explosion, the writer’s interlocutors bring up terrible incidents of the spring of 1986. Stories that were collected by Svetlana Alexievich create a picture of a total catastrophe – which touched the basics of human being and consciousness as well as understanding of time. The article presents three perspectives of understanding and experiencing the End. The first one refers to the end of life in its biological sense, the second one shows the collapse of the great Soviet imperium, which claimed the right to all answers regarding human questions and making decisions about all levels of homo sovieticus life. The third perspective is connected to the end of the ability to understand time, which proved – in contrast to what Soviet ideologists wished - not to be final.
