Páni z Cimburka náleželi do rozrodu rodů, které užívaly jako erbovní znamení břevna s cimbuřím na jejich horní hraně. Bernard z Cimburka jako významný člen rodu zbudoval na začátku 14. století nové rodové sídlo, hrad Cimburk, podle kterého se pak rod psal. Přijal také pozměněnou podobu rodového erbu – páni z Cimburka pak užívali znamení břeven s cimbuřím na obou okrajích, erbovní barvy byly červená a stříbrná. Počet břeven však byl do jisté míry variabilní, jak dokládá dochovaný sfragistický materiál.

The lords of Cimburk belonged to a line of families, who used a fess with battlements along its upper edge as their coat of arms. Bernard of Cimburk was an eminent member of the family. At the beginning of the 14th century, he built the new family seat, Cimburk Castle, from which the family took their name. He also adopted a modified form of the family coat of arms, in which the lords of Cimburk used the sign of a fess with battlements along both edges. The colours of the coat of arms were red and silver. However, the number of fesses was to some extent variable, as evidenced by the preserved sphragistic material.
