Kapitola se zabývá obdobím střední dospělosti, změnami a stabilitou ve fyzické, kognitivní i emoční oblasti. Soustředí se na vývoj osobnostních charakteristik a na dvě nejvýznamnější sociální oblasti: rodinu a zaměstnání. Věnuje se výsledkům empirického výzkumu střední dospělosti, především závěrům světových longitudinálních studií i fenoménu krize středního věku.

The chapter deals with the period of middle adulthood, changes and stability in the physical, cognitive and emotional areas. It focuses on the development of personality characteristics and on the two most important social areas: family and employment. It deals with the results of empirical research of middle adulthood, especially the conclusions of world longitudinal studies and the phenomenon of the middle age crisis.
