Studie na základě analýzy kurikulárních dokumentů a dějepisných učebnic meziválečného období naznačuje způsoby formování národní identity mládeže po roce 1918. Jako cíl školní historické edukace osnovy stanovily akcentování nezbytnosti vzniku samostatného státu zdůrazněním „utrpení“ Čechů v habsburské monarchii. Autoři tento záměr mnohdy naplňovali negativními obrazy habsburských panovníků, stereotypními pohledy na Němce a Maďary pak dokazovali nutnost zbavit se jejich dominance. Na druhé straně zaznamenáváme pozitivní představení osobností Dohody, které přispěly ke vzniku státu. Formování národní identity mládeže mělo podpořit zdůraznění kontinuity s českým středověkým státem a vyzvednutí těch historických postav, jejichž zásluhou sehrály české země významnou roli. Značný prostor pak byl vyhrazen aktivitám reprezentantů zahraničního odboje, podrobnému popisu účasti československých legií ve válce na straně Dohody. Opomenuta nezůstala ani role domácích politiků při vzniku státu. Autorka zohlednila způsob využití ikonografických pramenů k naplnění zmíněného záměru. Akcentovaná témata posilující národní identitu mladé generace nově vzniklého státu jsou převážně česká, a mohla tak zapůsobit především na české čtenáře.

Analysing curricular documents and history textbooks of the interwar period, the study outlines the ways young generation’s national identity was shaped after 1918. First, the curriculum placed great emphasis on the need for the establishment of an independent state in the light of Czech people’s “hardship” experienced in the Habsburg Monarchy. Textbooks often provided negative images of the rulers and stereotypical views of Germans and Hungarians, stressing the need to shed their dominance. This was contrasted with positive presentation of the Entente personalities who contributed to the establishment of the independent state; the analysed materials made references to the continuity of the Czech medieval state and highlighted the historical figures whose actions were conducive to the importance of the Czech lands. Considerable space was then devoted to the activities of foreign resistance representatives and detailed description of Czechoslovak legions’ participation in the war on the side of the Allies. The role of domestic politicians in the establishment of the state was not omitted either. The study makes use of working with iconographic sources and accentuates local topics which strengthened the national identity of the newly formed state’s young generation. It will thus be particularly appealing to Czech readers.
