Annotation in english language:	The article regards the problem of suffering and sacrifice in in Dimitry Merezhkovsky's novel „Leonardo da Vinci”. One of the protagonists of the novel who is torn between love to his master Leonardo and the binding norms of Christianity is placed in the centre of attention. Both suffering and sacrifice are present in the course of moral and spiritual-religious dilemmas of the protagonist. The meditations are at the same time the terms of philosphical search of Merezhkovsky's, who discusses in his novel the form of Christianity on the turn of the nineteenth century and the place of the Orthodox Church in Russia.
