Czechoslovac Republic, Region of Ostrava, 1968, revive civil society, liquidation

Studie se zabývá pokusem o obnovu občanské společnosti v ČSSR v roce 1968 (v rámci tzv. Pražského jara) na příkladu Ostravska. Autorka dokládá konkrétními příklady, ža pokusu se zúčastnili nejen příslušníci inteligence, ale i zástupci nižších společenských tříd - zejména dělnictva. Pokus byl zmařen okupací Československa vojsky pěti států Varšavské smlouvy, ale odpor obyvatel proti ní pokračoval i na Ostravsku až do srpna 1969.

The study looks at an attempt to rebuild civil society in the CSF in 1968 (as part of the so-called Prague Spring) in the example of the Ostrava-Region. The author illustrates with concrete examples that not only members of the intelligence,but also representatives of the lower social classes - especially the workforce - took part in the experiment. The attempt was thwarted by the occupation of Czechoslovakia by the troops of the five Warsaw Pact states, but popular opposition to it continued on Ostrava-Region until August 1969.
