The aim of this contribution is presentation of research results published in my doctoral dissertation. Main findings is based on an analysis of connections between coping strategies and competences of social workers in the field of mental health care. We focus there in detail on differences in preferred ways of stress management and levels of competences in relation to gender, age, and also duration and specialization of their work. Above mentioned findings indicate objective reasons to reform the system of educating workers in the field of mental health care, with emphasis on intervention competences in particular. We also recommend improving conditions and skills for stress management of those professional.
