Dolni Vestonice - Early Middle Age - anthropology - paleodemography

Středohradištní pohřebiště v Dolních Věstonicích-Na Pískách je vzhledem k počtu zkoumaných jedinců jedním z největších raně středověkých pohřebišť na území České republiky i střední Evropy. Z 883 antropologicky zkoumaných jedinců jich asi 55 % náleží nedospělým (do 20 let věku) a 45 % dospělým. V rámci demografických analýz byla provedena korekce potenciálně deficitních věkových kategorií (1. rok života a kategorie 1-5 let). Je velmi pravděpodobné, že struktura souboru antropologicky zkoumaných kosterních po zůstatků je ovlivněna jinými než přirozenými úmrtnostními procesy, a soubor není reprezentativní pro některé demografické analýzy.

The necropole from Dolní Věstonice-Na Pískách (end of 8th-mid of 11th century AD) is one of the largest Early Medieval necropoles from Czech republic and Central Europe. From the total number od 883 specimens approximately 55 % represent the children and subadult individuals (age 0-20 years). Under the terms of demographical analyses also the correction of potentially deficient age categories (1st year of life and category 1-5 years) has been carried out. This procedure has raised the expected numbers of youngest children to more real level. It is probable, that the structure of set of available anthropologically analysed skeletal remains is influenced by artificial factors rather than natural mortality processes and so the set is not representative for some demographical analyses.
