The author deals with theoretical aspects of personal autonomy in the old age. She also presents results of a concrete empirical observation, the aim of which was to answer next research questions: ´How is the independence (autonomy) defined by the elderly people, how is the adaptation to the old-age understood by them and what behavioral strategies they use for the maitenance of autonomy in the old-age.
