Kolektivní dílo odborníků z různých vědeckých oborů, vydané Filozofickou fakultou a Ústavem pro regionální studia Ostravské univerzity, přináší biogramy, zachycujících osudy osobností spjatých s vymezenou oblastí svým původem či působením. Jde o slovník připravovaný tzv. holandskou metodou, zahrnující významné osobnosti ze všech oblastí společenského dění. Vzhledem ke specifickému charakteru regionu zahrnuje slovník i reprezentanty minorit (německá, polská, židovská), uvádí rovněž kolektivní biogramy podnikatelských a šlechtických rodů.

Published by the Faculty of Arts and the Institute for Regional Studies at the University of Ostrava, and written by experts from various scientific fields, the lexicon features biogrammes depicting the lives of significant personalities who had ties to the region through their origin or activities. The lexicon was compiled on the basis of the Dutch method to include profiles of significant personalities from all areas of social life. With regard to the specifics of the region, the lexicon also includes representatives of ethnic minorities (German, Polish, Jewish) and furthermore, it provides collective biogrammes of enterpreneurship and aristocracy lineages.
