Obraz periferie v současné české literatuře obsahuje několik atributů; jedním z nejvýraznějších je zneužívání alkoholu lidmi žijícími na "okraji" - ať už ve smyslu sociálním, nebo geografickém. Příspěvek vychází ze syntetické analýzy vybraných děl současné české prózy zabývajících se vztahem identity a charakteru periferie (nocleháren a předměstských oblastí, průmyslových okrajů, Sudet, ghett a dalších) a fenoménu alkoholu a alkoholismu. Studie se zaměřuje na charakteristické predispozice postav způsobené místem jejich života a důsledky zneužívání alkoholu i na specifika "pití" v periferiích na rozdíl od centrálních oblastí. Práce se snaží odpovědět na otázku, zda a jak alkohol posiluje pocit sounáležitosti v periferních společnostech a přispívá ke konstrukci kolektivní identity. Pozornost je věnována i literárnímu ztvárnění samotného aktu konzumace, který významově směřuje k ritualizaci, a jeho funkcím společenského setkávání a potenciální konfrontace. V neposlední řadě se příspěvek zaměřuje na literární topos hospod,barů a heren v periferním prostoru - pohostinské podniky zde tvoří centrum dění, které vytěsňuje tradičně vnímaný dominantní prostor (kostel, náměstí, škola apod.). Na tomto základě je také zvažován způsob, jakým se sdílená zkušenost s alkoholem, často spojená s hospodou, podílí na uchovávání a předávání kolektivní paměti, míst spojených s identitou a jejích obyvatel.

The image of the periphery in the contemporary Czech literature includes several attributes; one of the most remarkable is the abuse of alcohol by people living on the „margins“ - whether in the social or geographical sense. This paper is based on a synthetic analysis of selected works of the contemporary Czech prose dealing with the relationship of identity and character of suburbs (dormitory towns and suburban areas, industrial outskirts, Sudetenland, ghettos and others) and the phenomenon of alcohol and alcoholism. The study focuses on the characteristic predisposition of characters caused by the place of their life and the consequences of alcohol abuse as well as the specifics of „drinking“ in periphery as opposed to central areas. This paper tries to respond the question whether and how alcohol strengthens the sense of belonging in the peripheral societies and contributes to the construction of collective identity. Literary representations of the actual act of consumption, that tends in meaning to ritualization, as well as its functions of social gatherings and potential confrontation are noticed too. Finally, the contribution focuses on the literary topos of pubs,bars and gambling rooms in the peripheral space - hospitality businesses form here the centre of events that displaces the traditionally perceived dominant space (church, square, school, etc.). On this basis, the way the shared experience with alcohol, often related to the pub, involved in the preservation and transmission of collective memory, identity-related sites and its inhabitants are also considered.
