Both these terms refer to technically oriented directions. STEM is a concept focused on four technical disciplines - Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. However, innovation, creativity and critical thinking are in high demand in all fields today. That is why experts and teachers are promoting the expansion of STEM education to include the Arts.
STEAM is not a traditional way of education; the concept aims at creative thinking, critical thinking and overcoming real-world challenges. Teaching and learning are oriented to constructivist and inquiry-based.
“There is a constant need to look for ways to guide the current generation towards an interest in technology, to develop their computational thinking. Programming and robotics certainly represent a possible way. Robotics offers a diverse range of possibilities. There is no doubt that the robot is a motivating element for pupils, but it can also be a tool for developing computational thinking.”
“Robots, robotics, robotic toys, and robotic building blocks have moved beyond the realm of
programming and are highly debated topics in education today.”
Children are very individual, while some love technology, others are not interested in it and their interests are directed towards art. The STEAM concept is certainly a great way to engage all students regardless of their experience and interests.
Our goal is to present the created educational materials with a methodology according to the STEAM concept to develop not only technical skills and exploration, but also curiosity, confidence, and critical thinking in children. It is important that pupils are not afraid of new things, that they enjoy discovering them and that they see themselves as future scientists, artists, and creators.
