We investigate in this paper a fuzzy q-symmetric variational problem. Based on the relative distance measure fuzzy arithmetic (RDM-FA) and horizontal membership functions (HMFs), we first propose the new concepts of granular q-symmetric differentiability and integrability for fuzzy-valued functions. Then, fundamental foundations of q-symmetric calculus of variations based on HMFs are provided. With the help of HMFs and the granular q-symmetric differentiability, we derive the necessary optimality condition for the fuzzy q-symmetric variational problem. Finally, some numerical examples to illustrate the proposed approach are presented.
