Studie se zabývá vznikem uctívané sochy Panny Marie ve Frýdku a nastiňuje její různé funkce a jejich proměny v průběhu barokního období. Studie naznačuje, že původní sloup se sochou Panny Marie byl pravděpodobně navržen podle vzoru Colonna della Pace na náměstí Santa Maria Maggiore v Římě, mariánským sloupem spojovaným s francouzským sochařem Guillaumem Berthélotem, italským architektem Carlem Madernou a papežem Pavlem V. Pokud se jedná o autorství sochy Panny Marie ve Frýdku, existují zde dva možní kandidáti, a sice Franz Schwabe von Schwabenheim a Salomon Steinhoffer. Studie ukazuje, že sloup se sochou Panny Marie mohl být původně zamýšlen jako protireformační symbol. Tento záměr a tato funkce byly zcela zapomenuty a socha začala být uctívána prostým lidem. Na konci 18. století se socha Panny Marie Frýdecké stala ochranným symbolem pro celé rakouské Slezsko, podobně jako tomu bylo u tzv. palladia Čech ve Staré Boleslavi pro České království. Avšak tato nová funkce byla postupně zapomenuta a socha Panny Marie byla poutníky uctívána pouze jako náboženský symbol bez dalších konotací.

The study deals with the origins of the venerated statue of the Virgin Mary in Frýdek and outlines its different functions and their transformations during the Baroque period. The study suggests that the original column with the statue of the Virgin Mary was probably designed according to the colonna della Pace in Piazza Santa Maria Maggiore in Rome, a column with a statue connected with the French sculptor, Guillaume Berthélot, the Italian architect, Carlo Maderna and Pope Paul V. When it comes to the authorship of the statue of the Virgin Mary in Frýdek, two possible sculptors exist, namely, Franz Schwabe von Schwabenheim and Salomon Steinhoffer. The column with the statue of the Virgin Mary might have been originally intended to be a counter-reformation symbol. This intention and this function were completely forgotten and the statuebegan to be venerated by the common people. at the end of the 18th century, the Virgin Mary statue became anapotropaic symbol for the whole Austrian Silesia, similar to that of the so-called Palladium of Bohemia in Stará Boleslav for the Kingdom of Bohemia. This new function was gradually forgotten and the statue of the Virgin Mary has been worshipped by the pilgrims only as a religious symbol without any other connotations.
