Přibližně od roku 2018 se Milan Cieslar (*1969) systematicky zabývá malířskými zásahy do svých starších děl. Svébytný druh tvůrčích činností, při nichž umělci různým způsobem interpretují významná díla umělecké tradice či kulturní artefakty, se na počátku 21. století začal označovat jako „umění postprodukce“. Na rozdíl od nejvýznamnějšího výtvarníka zdejší kulturní oblasti zabývajícího se „uměním postprodukce“, slovenského malíře Rudolfa Fily (1932–2015), jehož přemalby klasických děl evropského malířství představují svébytné zkoumání západní vizuálnosti, pracuje Milan Cieslar výhradně s vlastními malbami. Zatímco Filu fascinoval malířský dialog s mistrovskými díly západní umělecké tradice, Cieslara zajímá niterný tvůrčí rozhovor s vlastní malířskou prací. Nejde ovšem o pouhý subjektivismus, tvůrčí návrat ke starším malbám zde vede k jakési umělecké introspekci, během níž jsou nevyhnutelně znovu kladeny obecné otázky po povaze umělecké tvorby, díla a média.

Milan Cieslar (*1969) has been systematically engaged in painting interventions in his older works since around 2018. At the beginning of the 21st century, a particular type of creative activity, in which artists interpret important works of artistic tradition or cultural artefacts in various ways, began to be referred to as the “art of post-production.” Unlike the most important artist of the local cultural area dealing with the “art of post-production,” the Slovak painter Rudolf Fila (1932–2015), whose painterly interventions into classic works of European painting represent a unique exploration of Western visuality, Milan Cieslar works exclusively with his own paintings. While Fila was fascinated by the painterly dialogue with masterpieces of the Western artistic tradition, Cieslar is interested in an introspective creative conversation with his own painting. However, it is not just subjectivism, the creative return to older paintings here leads to a kind of artistic introspection, during which general questions about the nature of artistic creativity, work and medium are inevitably asked.
