Filozof rozumie komunizm jako rodzaj ateistycznej sekty religijnej, która przekształca i jednocześnie deformuje rosyjską ideę mesjanistyczną. Myśl Bierdiajewa daje się zauważyć w utworze Swietłany Aleksijewicz "Czasy secondhand. Koniec czerwonego człowieka". Bohaterowie wspomnień dzielą się doświadczeniem swej wiary w ideę komunistyczną, jej system wartości oraz porządek radzieckiego świata.
